I’ve never been one for making New Year’s resolutions, since I believe if you actually want to achieve a goal, you won’t wait for the New Year to do it. However, since it falls nicely between semesters, I figure now is just as good a time as any to make some goals and set up some steps to achieve them because as one of my sisters says, “If you don’t have a concrete plan of action, it is easy to deviate from achieving your goal”. She’s an RC at her school. Doesn’t it show?
Goal #1 – Don’t go out so often.
Last semester, as I’m sure I’ve mentioned, I threw away a hefty sum of money getting bubble tea at LimeRed Teahouse or going to the movies with friends. I shouldn’t say “threw away”, because I enjoyed those times greatly, and often I very much needed the break. However, it’s possible to relax without spending money, so next semester I resolve to de-stress by watching a movie, playing a board game, or, better yet, taking a well-deserved nap.
Limit my outings to once a month.
Goal #2 – Watch less television.
Since my boyfriend got a big-screen TV last semester, I wasted a bunch of time catching up on everything I’d missed while I’d abstained from watching TV (only due to the fact that I didn’t have one). This time, I can actually use the word “wasted”, because I didn’t really get anything out of it. My favorite time sink? Millionaire Matchmaker. I know – reality shows are so gauche and tacky. I agree that they’re worthless. It’s just that the millionaires on that show are so screwed up that it gives me hope. Clearly money isn’t everything. #schadenfreude
Order boyfriend not to let me into his room on weeknights.
Goal #3 – Don’t procrastinate.
Although I’ve curbed much of my procrastination since high school, I still have a long way to go. Since I’m so busy a lot of the time, it’s easy to let myself slack off when I have a free moment, rather than getting ahead.
Follow first two goals and I should be well on my way.
Get a planner and *gasp* set aside time each day for homework.
Happy New Year! Best of luck with your own goals for the coming year!
